Yamato es la hija del antiguo Emperador Kaidou. Entrenada desde joven para ser la heredera de Kaidou, Yamato desarrolló en cambio una profunda admiración por el samurái Kozuki Oden. Tras su muerte, Yamato decidió convertirse en Oden, haciéndose pasar por él y adoptando sus modales. Tras leer las grandes hazañas documentadas por Oden en su cuaderno de bitácora, que ella considera su «biblia», Yamato sueña con abandonar los confines del País de Wano y hacerse a la mar con los Piratas de Sombrero de Paja, al igual que hizo Oden con los Piratas de Barbablanca y de Piratas de Roger décadas atrás. Yamato también desea cumplir los objetivos de Oden, es decir, abrir las fronteras de Wano, desafiando directamente los deseos de su padre para el país.
